The first TERA Reforged Alpha test starts on Saturday, August 8, at 3 PM SĂŁo Paulo time.

Scope first: this test is exclusive to members of our Discord community and covers only Island of Dawn, with a level 10 cap. It is the server’s first live test, and the focus is on infrastructure.

Important: we're still in development. Values and mechanics may change as we test, balance, and gather feedback.

At a Glance

  • Date and time: Saturday, August 8, at 3 PM in SĂŁo Paulo (6 PM UTC)
  • Who takes part: Discord members
  • Content: Island of Dawn, with a level 10 cap
  • Expected duration: around two weeks, subject to change as testing goes on
  • Wipes: will be necessary, and the name you reserved in the App stays yours
  • What to expect: bugs, crashes, lag and maintenance
  • Focus of this round: infrastructure before content
  • Before Saturday: signing up in the App and downloading the game take time, so start now

What This Test Is (and What It Is Not)

TERA Reforged Alpha tests are exclusive to people already in our Discord, and they exist to validate specific areas of the game, one at a time. For this first test, the area we picked is Island of Dawn, with a level 10 cap.

Much of this content comes from experimental restoration and customization work, so instability, breakage and maintenance downtime are to be expected. This is not an early launch. It is a test.

The content this area covers has already been detailed in earlier devlogs: the Island of Dawn restoration and, more recently, the recovery of classic content with the new leveling rewards.

There are two differences compared to the Beta.

In the Alpha:

  • Access restricted to Discord members
  • Specific, reduced content, chosen to validate one scope at a time

In the Beta:

  • More open access
  • The full game content

Date and Time

The server opens at 3 PM SĂŁo Paulo time. Below, the same moment in other regions.

The idea is to keep the Alpha up for around two weeks. That is an estimate, not a fixed deadline.

Before Saturday: Get Your Account Ready

We recommend signing up in the TERA Reforged App and downloading the game ahead of time.

Do this during the week:

  1. Create your account at app.terareforged.com, using your Discord if you prefer
  2. Verify your account through Discord, the step that confirms you are part of the community
  3. Create your game login, which is just a username: there is no separate password
  4. Reserve your character name

Every step is explained in detail in the devlog about the account App and our custom launcher.

Once the four steps are done, download and install the launcher. The game install takes up around 41 GB, so it is worth starting early, especially on slower connections.

When the launcher shows the Ready to play state, you are set for Saturday.

What We Are Testing

Our first Alpha is mainly focused on infrastructure testing.

What we are putting to the test:

  • The connection layer between the game and the server
  • The launcher
  • The Skill Prediction engine
  • The security module
  • The server infrastructure

In practice, that means measuring latency, finding conflicts with firewalls and antivirus software, checking for graphics API incompatibilities, watching the game download and install, and validating name reservation all the way to character creation.

We have a single success criterion, and it holds until the end of the Alpha: the player creates an account, logs in, downloads the game easily and has a good experience playing.

Third-Party Tools and the Security Module

Our approach is to bring into the game whatever does not harm the community or the economy, without depending on anything installed alongside the game.

Skill Prediction is proof of that, and it is already part of this Alpha. The system runs inside the game and is enabled with one click in the launcher settings, with no install, no dependencies and no extra tweaking. We told the full story in the devlog about native Skill Prediction.

What stays out are tools that create an advantage over other players. For that, this Alpha includes the first version of our security module.

The goal of this first version is a narrow one. We want to check whether the module will run into conflicts with the antivirus software and firewalls on our players’ machines, which is why it ships now, alongside the rest of the infrastructure.

This version is not meant to be an impassable barrier, and we make no such claim. Our security strategy already starts from that premise. The module is one layer, not the whole solution.

Wipes Will Be Necessary

The reason is simple: adjustments to skills, quests and items leave inconsistencies behind in the game database. Adjustments like these will be constant during the test, and carrying the inconsistencies forward only creates instability and slows development down. Wiping the database is faster and safer.

One thing does survive. The name you reserved in the App stays exclusive to your account after every wipe.

How to Send Feedback

Feedback goes to the forums on our Discord, one per language. In English, the forum is #bugs-and-suggestions.

How to post:

  • Search first. If a post about it already exists, reply there instead of opening a new one.
  • Tag your post with two tags: one type (Bug, Suggestion or Question) and one product (Game, Launcher or Website).
  • A bug report needs: character name, class and level, where and when it happened (with your timezone), how to repeat it, what you expected to happen, and a screenshot or clip.
  • Never post an exploit in a public channel. Item duplication, currency generation or progression skips go privately to a staff member.

The more detailed the report, the easier the problem is to reproduce and the faster it turns into a fix.

What’s Next

After the Alpha, the plan is to gather the feedback, apply the fixes and adjustments, add the extra content that was already in our plans, and come back with a new round of testing.

See you on Saturday.
